Teaching Teens To Pray…

CAMPUS KINISI is a ministry started in the public high schools about a year and a half ago. CLAIM YOUR CAMPUS is a student led ministry in the school. To this point one of our schools has 30-50 students Monday-Friday 30-50 minutes before school starts. In visiting the prayer meeting this morning I thought… these kids need direction. They have incredible intentions. More than that, they are actually there every single day. That’s amazing. But, their prayers were short, tedious, and quite frankly meaningless.  They will have this background and prayer guide for the coming weeks.

Luke 11:1b “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

How should we pray? Is one form of prayer more effective than another?

James 5:16b The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

The effectiveness of your prayers starts with purity. Power is in the Name of Jesus, whom we also pray through. When our hearts and hands are clean there is power and effectiveness in what we say. When we’re filthy, our prayers fall flat.

The prayer of a righteous man – we are made righteous through Christ. Without Christ there is no righteousness at all. In fact Romans 3:10 says, there is no one is righteous, not even one. And Romans 3:23, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

We can give praise that, God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21.

His name is Jesus. Our name means nothing without His name over us. Without Jesus we don’t have righteousness and therefore God cannot hear us. Without Jesus we are not pure or holy and therefore are unable to be in the presence of God. And without Jesus we are not effective in anything we do.

Lord, teach us to pray.

That’s a great request, one that we should ask, but it has more to do with obedience than anything. Stay with God always and you’ll see how effective your prayer life can be.

MONDAY:

Pray for each other. Every prayer that leaves your lips should NOT be a request, cause it’s not about us but God. However God tells us to:

James 5:16 confess your sins to each other and pray for each other …

Philippians 4:6 in everything, by prayer and petitionpresent your requests to God.

Monday is a fresh start of the week. Make it a fresh start in the soul. Clear things up, confess the hurts the pains and the sins that will block your effectiveness in praying.

TUESDAY:

Pray a praise to God. Prayer is not about us or about now, it’s about God/Jesus and eternity. Therefore, rather than requests and self-focused thanks, state reasons God is worthy of our praise, place the focus on Him.

Exodus 15:2, 11.  2 Samuel 22:4. 1 Chronicles 16:25. Psalm 33:1-3; 40:3.

WEDNESDAY:

Pray God’s Names. The names of God are powerful.

Elohim: “strong one.” Yahweh: “to exist, be.” Jehovah Jireh: “The Lord will provide.” Jehovah Nissi:“The Lord is my Banner.” Jehovah Shalom:“The Lord is Peace.” Jehovah Ro’i: “The Lord my Shepherd.” Jehovah Shammah: “The Lord who is there.”

THURSDAY:

Pray thanks to God. Every prayer that leaves our lips should NOT be thanksgiving, cause it’s not about us but God. However God tells us that:

Philippians 4:6bwith thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

FRIDAY:

Adore God. Worship God. Understand the difference between prayer that’s self-focused and God-focused.  Adore Him today. Worship Him in prayer, song, etc.
