My Story
Zach Rasmusson
I’m Zach, and this is my story…
My life changed completely in the third grade. Growing up with my oldest sister (I’m the youngest of three) wracked with multiple health issues from birth, I quickly learned the value of life and family and learned to take a sacrificial approach to life. When difficulties come, don’t fight it, grow through it. Trust in God’s plan.
Saved and called by God in the third grade I thought I was going to be a missionary to Australia. I’ve been around the country and the world, but still serving God right here in USA.
20 years in church work as a Youth and Assistant Pastor I’ve gained wisdom and a number of skills I’d like to share with the world.
(A shout out to my parents for leading me to Christ, and my pastor for teaching me everything I know about ministry)
Life wouldn’t be the same without people. We are created to be relational. I’ll be honest, it’s the opposite of what I feel like doing. But I obeyed God in trust and I don’t regret it. Though it’s come with great heartaches, there are also countless wonders (one of them being leading my own two, now teenagers, to Christ).
Working with students and families in church through: preaching, teaching, leading, in ministry life and music I’ve gained skills I feel are too valuable to not repurpose in a blog to help others searching for some of life’s most pondered questions.
I’ve raised two kids (18 & 16 now) and I’ve started over too with a 1 and 2 year old. I’ve been through divorce and church splits, both things we should never have to go through. I’ve made drastic mistakes or should I say, life-altering lessons.

Fruit grows in the valley…
A divorced Pastor… I felt like an oxi-moron, if that was even possible. But I quickly learned there is always a green leaf in drought season. Praise be to God.
Music has been a big part of my life. It will unquestionably be part of this blog as well. But the message is the most important part of any song! Creating music was not only healing for me, it was my protection. David played music to bring about the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit stayed very much alive through my music. Maybe I’ll record it. Or maybe the dozens of songs where just for my sake. I’m happy either way.
A few other green leaves where my Pastor and my parents who fought for me and with me. My music would not have been enough without them. My teenagers, who bring me great fear, but who also gave and give me purpose. My present wife (after 7 years single-parenting), there are not enough words to fit on the internet to express my love and appreciation for your undying support.
I’m still learning. But I’ve decided to write. To share. To not waste a single bit of what God has given to me. I’ve seen Him multiply gifts and opportunity, everything I’ve given Him has expanded and touched other lives. I’m not Billy Graham or Louis Palau, and I don’t need to be. Nor do I need to be known to impact the world like 12 ordinary men, surrendered.
I hope you will consider taking this journey with me. We can grow and learn together. Just like writing music, I’ve found joy and purpose in writing: sermons, blogs, books, children’s books. Nothing’s published or recorded but they will be.
One other recent green leaf – Oswald Chambers.
One major reason I’ve decided to write is that his ‘My Utmost for His Highest’ devotional has touched my life profoundly through the years. As I turned 43 in November of 2022, I learned that Oswald died at 43. That gripped me. I’ve done much, but nothing to the caliber of these great men. And Oswald, not one of his writings where published until after his death. That’s amazing to think about.
You may not hear of me until I’m dust, but my words can go on as I proclaim the Word that never dies.

Frequently Asked Questions
To save you time, here are some common questions about Exchanged Life Counseling and Counseling with Zach at Life Not Lies.
What is the Exchanged Life?
The term “Exchanged Life” is directly related to the believer’s discovery of their new identity in Christ. The believer is a new creation; one born of God. What was once true is no longer true. J. Hudson Taylor made the English term “Exchanged Life” popular through his testimony of how God made him a new man. (From the book, Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret, chapter 14.)
