What Does Trust Look Like in 2026?

What does trust look like?
Firstly, any sort of look-alike contest is always going to end the same. Badly. Feelings of failure, missing the mark, ultimately… condemnation. Romans 8:1 There is… no condemnation for those that are in Christ…
So the most important aspect of trust is answering this question; is it coming from or for? As a believer, I’m not living FOR God. I’m living FROM my new identity in Christ.
This is a hard concept to process. And this confirms our initial question; trust.
What trust (living FROM my new identity in Christ) looks like:
— It is identity-based not performance-based. Living FOR God is all about my ability to please Him in what I’m doing. Living FROM my new identity is all about trusting that I’m already pleasing to God. This mind shift helps equip our thinking, even towards the pull of the flesh.
— Fruit: Galatians 5:22-23. This fruit isn’t something we produce through new efforts or more discipline, it flows out of my new identity. Am I going to trust what God says is true about me? 2 Corinthians 5:17 – I’m new. Galatians 2:20 | 1 Corinthians 6:17 – I’m in union. As I trust these truths something amazing happens, my desires line up with my new identity and God’s will. Our doing (discipline) is simply to trust. We are trusting the finished work of Christ which compels or urges us, 2 Corinthians 5:14. That’s when the fruit of the Spirit pour out like rivers of living water.
That’s what it looks like to trust. It doesn’t lead me into a life of striving in self-effort. Rather, it leaves me living from my new identity. As I renew my mind to these truths, I mature into the truth that I’m trusting, this brings transformation.
We can all agree that trying hard enough will produce results, what I can guarantee is that in trusting the Finished work of Christ will bring lasting results along with the rest and peace of God.
